1) No. 158 Not what these hands have done

1.

Not what these hands have done

Can save this guilty soul

Not what this toiling flesh has borne

Can make my spirit whole.

Chorus:

Thy work alone, 0 Saviour,

Can ease this weight of sin

The blood alone, O Lamb of God,

Can give me peace within.

2.

Not what I feel or do

Can give me peace with God:

Nor all my prayers, or sighs, or tears

Can bear my awful load.

3.

Thy love to me, O God,

Not mine, O Lord, to Thee,

Can rid me of this dark unrest,

And set my spirit free.

4.

No other work save Thine,

No meaner blood will do,

No strength, save that which is Divine,

Can bear me safely through.

5.

I praise the God of grace,

I trust His love and might

He calls me His, I call Him mine,

My God, my Joy, my Light.

2) No. 42 “Come unto Me!” It is the Saviour’s voice-

1.

“Come unto Me!” It is the Saviour’s voice-

The Lord of life, who bids thy heart rejoice

O weary heart, with heavy cares opprest,

Come unto Me,’ and I will give you rest.

Chorus:

“Come unto Me, come unto Me,

Come unto Me and I will give you rest,

I will give you rest, I will give you rest.”

2.

Weary with life’s long struggle, full of pain,

O doubting soul, thy Saviour calls again;

Thy doubts shall vanish, and thy sorrows cease,

Come unto Me,’ and I will give you peace.

3.

O dying man, with guilt and sin dismayed,

With conscience wakened, of thy God afraid;

‘Twixt hopes and fears oh, end the anxious strife

Come unto Me,” and I will give you life.

4,

Life, rest, and peace, the flowers of deathless bloom,

The Saviour gives us not beyond the tomb,

But here and now glimpse is given on earth some

Of joys which wait us thro’ the gate of heaven.

3) No. 265 To God be the glory!

1.

To God be the glory ! great things He hath done

So loved He the world that He gave us His Son;

Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,

And opened the Life-gate that all may go in.

Chorus:

Praise the Lord! praise the Lord!

Let the earth hear His voice!

Praise the Lord! praise the Lord!

Let the people rejoice!

Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son

And give Him the glory-great things He hath done!

2.

Oh perfect redemption, the purchase of blood

To every believer the promise of God:

The vilest offender who truly believes,

That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

3.

Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,

And great cur rejoicing through Jesus the Son

But purer and higher, and greater will be

Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

4) No. 92 – I LEFT it all with Jesus

1.

I LEFT it all with Jesus

Long ago;

All my sins I brought Him,

And my woe ;

When by faith I saw Him

On the tree,

Heard His still small whisper,

‘Tis for thee,”

From my heart the burden

Rolled away,

Happy day !

2.

I leave it all with Jesus,

For He knows

How to steal the bitter

From life’s woes

How to gild the tear-drop

With His smile

Make the desert garden

Bloom awhile.

When my weakness leaneth

On His might,

All seems light.

3.

I leave it all with Jesus

Day by day;

Faith an firmly trust Him,

Come what may

Hope has dropped her anchor,

Found her rest,

In the calm, sure haven

Of His breast.

Love esteems it heaven

To abide

At His side.

4.

I leave myself with Jesus,

For He keeps

Watch o’er all

His creatures

And ne’er sleeps;

Worlds on worlds are hanging

On His hand ;

Life and death are waiting

His command,

Yet His tender bosom,

Makes me room

‘Tis my home.

5) No. 89 I HEAR Thy welcome voice

1.

I HEAR Thy welcome voice

That calls me, Lord, to Thee,

For cleansing in Thy precious blood

That flowed on Calvary.

Chorus:

I am coming, Lord ! coming now to Thee!

Wash me, cleanse me, in the blood that flowed on Calvary.

2.

Though coming weak and vile,

Thou dost my strength assure

Thou dost my vileness fully cleanse

Till spotless all and pure.

3.

‘Tis Jesus calls me on

To perfect faith  and love,

To perfect hope, and trust, and peace,

For earth and heaven above.

4.

‘Tis Jesus who confirms

The blessed work within,

By adding grace to welcomed grace

Where reigned the power of sin.

5.

And He the witness gives

To loyal hearts and free,

That every promise is fulfilled,

If faith but brings the plea.

6.

All hail, atoning blood!

All hail, redeeming grace!

All hail, the gift of Christ our Lord,

Our Strength and Righteousness.

6) No. 291 – WHOEVER receiveth the crucified One

1,

WHOEVER receiveth the crucified One,

Whoever believeth on God’s only Son,

A free and a perfect salvation shall have:

For He is abundantly able to save.

Chorus:

Oh sinner, the Sav—-iour is calling for thee;—-

His grace and His mer—-cy are wondrously free!

His blood as a ran—som for sinners He gave,

And He is abun—-dantly able to save.

2.

Whoever receiveth the message of God,

And trusts in the power of the soul-cleansing blood,

A present and perfect salvation shall have:

For Jesus is ready this moment to save.

7) No. 143 – MY God I have found the thrice blessed ground

1.

MY God I have found the thrice blessed ground,

Where life, and where joy, and true comfort abound.

Chorus:

Hallelujah! Thine the glory!

Hallelujah! Amen.

Hallelujah! Thine the glory!

Revive us again.

2.

Tis found in the blood, of Him who once stood

My Refuge and Safety, my Surety with God.

3.

He bore on the tree the sentence for me,

And now both the Surety and sinner are free.

4.

Accepted I am in the once-offered Lamb:

It was God who Himself had deviséd the plan,

5.

And though here below, ‘mid sorrow and woe,

My place is in heaven with Jesus, I know,

6.

And this I shall find, for such is His mind,

He’ll not be in heaven and leave me behind.

7.

And soon He will come to take us safe home,

And make us rejoice with Himself round the throne.

Chorus at end:

Hallelujah! Thine the glory!

Hallelujah! Amen.

Hallelujah! Thine the glory!

Come quickly again.

8) No. 84 – I AM Thine, O Lord

1.

I AM Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,

And it told Thy love to me

But I long to rise in the arms of faith,

And be closer drawn to Thee.

Chorus:

Draw me nearer, blessed Lord,

To the cross where Thou hast died:

Draw me nearer, blessed Lord,

To Thy precious, wounded side.

2.

Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,

By the power of grace divine

Let my soul look up with a stedfast hope,

And my will be lost in Thine.

3.

There are depths of love that I cannot know

Till I cross the narrow sea

There are heights of joy that I may not reach

Till I rest in peace with Thee.

9) No. 166 – O LOVE divine what hast thou done

1.

O LOVE divine what hast thou done

The Christ of God for us hath bled,

The Father’s co-eternal Son

Had all our sins upon Him laid,

The Son of God for us hath died,

Our Lord, our Life was crucified.

2.

Was crucified for us in shame,

To bring us rebels back to God,

So may we glory in His name,

As those redeemed by precious blood,

Pardon and life flowed from His side,

When He our Lord was crucified.

3.

Then let us glory in the cross,

Make Christ our boast, our constant theme

All things for Him account but loss,

And now for Him despise the shame

Let naught with Him our hearts divide

Since He for us was crucified.

10) No. 275 – WHAT can wash away my stain?

1.

WHAT can wash away my stain?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus

What can make me whole again ?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Chorus:

Oh, precious is the flow, that makes

me white as Snow !

No other fount I know, nothing

but the blood of Jesus!

2.

For my cleansing this I see-

Nothing but the blood of Jesus

For my pardon this my plea-

Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

3.

Nothing can for sin atone-

Nothing but the blood of Jesus

Naught of good that I have done-

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

4.

This is all my hope and peace-

Nothing but the blood of Jesus

This is all my righteousness-

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

11) No. 286 – WHEN this passing world is done

1.

WHEN this passing world is done,

When has sunk yon radiant sun

When I stand with Christ in glory,

Looking o’er life’s finished story

Then, Lord, shall I fully know,

Not till then, how much I owe.

2.

When I hear the wicked call

On the rocks and hills to fall,

When I hear them start and shrink

On the fiery deluge brink

Then, Lord, shall I fully know,

Not till then, how much I owe.

3.

When I stand before the throne

Dressed in beauty not mine own

When I see Thee as Thou art

Love Thee with unsinning heart

Then, Lord, shall I fully know,

Not till then, how much I owe.

4.

When the praise of heaven I hear,

Loud as thunders to the ear,

Loud as many waters’ noise,

Sweet as harp’s melodious voice

Then, Lord, shall I fully know,

Not till then, how much I owe.

5.

E’en on earth, as through a glass

Darkly, let Thy glory pass

Make forgiveness feel so sweet,

Make Thy Spirit’s help so meet

E’en on earth. Lord, make me know

Something of how much I owe.

6.

Chosen not for good in me,

Wakened up from wrath to flee ;

Hidden in the Saviour’s side,

By the Spirit sanctified

Teach me, Lord, on earth to show

By my love, how much I owe.

12) No. 295 WILL your anchor hold

1.

WILL your anchor hold in the storms of life,

When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?

When the strong tides lift and the cables strain,

Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?

Chorus:

We have an anchor that keeps the soul

Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;

Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,

Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!

2.

Will your anchor hold in the straits of fear,

When the breakers roar and the reef is near ?

While the surges rave, and the wild winds blow,

Shall the angry waves then your barque o’erflow?

3.

Will your anchor hold in the floods of death,

When the waters cold chill your latest breath ?

On the rising tide you can never fail,

While your anchor holds within the vail.

4.

Will your eyes behold through the morning light

The city of gold, and the harbour bright?

Will you anchor safe by the heavenly shore,

When life’s storms are past for evermore?

13) no. 18 – AT the feast of Belshazzar

AT the feast of Belshazzar and a thousand of his lords,

While they drank from golden vessels, as the Book of Truth records

In the night, as they revelled in the royal palace hall,

They were seized with consternation ’twas the Hand upon the wall !

Chorus:

“Tis the hand of God on the wall!

“Tis the hand of God on the wall!

Shall the record be “Found wanting!”

Or shall it be “Found trusting!”

While that hand is writing on the wall?

2.

See the brave captive, Daniel, as he stood before the throng

And rebuked the haughty monarch for his mighty deeds of wrong;

As he read out the writing-’twas the doom of one and all,

For the kingdom now was finished- said the Hand upon the wall.

3.

See the faith, zeal, and courage, that would dare to do the right,

Which the Spirit gave to Daniel – twas the secret of his might

In his home in Judea, Or a captive in the hall,

He understood the writing of his God upon the wall.

4.

So our deeds are recorded there’s a Hand that’s writing now

Sinner, put your trust in Jesus–to His royal mandate bow

For the day is approaching-it must come to one and all,

When the sinner’s condemnation will be written on the wall

14) No. 145 My hope is built on nothing less

1.

My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Chorus:

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand

All other ground is sinking sand.

All other ground is sinking sand.

2.

When darkness seems to hide His face,

I rest on His unchanging grace

In every high and stormy gale,

My anchor holds within the vail.

3.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,

Support me in the ‘whelming flood:

When all around my soul gives way,

He then is all my Hope and Stay.

4.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,

I shall in Him, through grace be found,

Clothed in His righteousness alone,

Faultless to stand before the throne.

15) The day Thou gavest (39 new GS)

1.

The day Thou gavest, Lord, is ended,

The darkness falls at Thy behest;

To Thee our morning hymns ascended,

Thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

2.

As o’er each continent and island

The dawn leads on another day,

The voice of prayer is never silent

Nor dies the strain of praise away.

3.

The sun that bids us rest is waking

Our brethren ‘neath the western sky,

And hour by hour fresh lips are making

Thy wondrous doings heard on high.

4.

So be it, Lord! Thy throne shall never,

Like earth’s proud empires, pass away;

Thy kingdom stands, and grows for ever,

Till all Thy creatures own Thy sway.
